Business:

1. Bylaws (Betsy Naeger - Committee Chair) - Subcommittee: Betsy Naeger, Shelly Batzler, Sharon Waldmann, April Kuhlman, Lisa Hodges. Betsy presented attached committee report/recommendations which was discussed and approved by unanimous vote of members present (motion by Christine Heady, 2nd by Jackie Bangert.) Discussion included: Anyone involved in ostomy or wound care may attend who is either a national WOCN member or pays local annual dues $12.00 for 2004 (will change with rebate amount from National WOCN Society membership). Our meetings are informal, we are a strong group, manufacturer's reps and others will find this valuable and can assist us in marketing ourselves. Future proposals tabled for future discussion: 1) Offer 50% off on locally sponsored workshops to local members & 2) Offer 50% towards dues to National Organization for active members (participating) who attend meetings and serve on committees.

2. Web Page (Sheila Kramer) - Steve Kuhlman want to discontinue maintenance of our Website. Sheila Kramer has contacted numerous people: reported about WebSite Handyman: $25.00/month, will look it over and offer suggestions and give us quotes on various updates, revisions. Second possibility is "Computer Guys" - Sheila will contact and make decision. Approved unanimously (motion-Colleen Cole, 2nd-Betsy Naeger). Steve Kuhlman initially paid $100 to set website up but nothing since. Sheila Kramer suggested we pay $200 for Steve's help. Approved unanimously (motion-Sharon Waldmann, 2nd -Janet Knebel). Sheila will contact Lisa Hodges to write check.

3. Wound Cleansers - Discussion: Should you use wound cleansers w/surfactants which are toxic to cells? Perhaps for short period of time, then switch to something w/o toxicity. Blairex comes in aerosol - cannot be used in acute care. SafClens is back and several nurses use it. Literature states that in order to be effective in separating debris from base of wound, must be slightly toxic. Shared opinions, no definite answers.

4. Chronic Wound Conference, Rolla - reported by Retta Sutterfield 9/18/03 - all day $50.00 - WOCN members invited 2nd annual - attendance last year 50 - hope to reach 75.

COMMITTEE FOR CONSIDERATION OF MEMBERSHIP AND BYLAWS

Report submitted June 3, 2003

As a committee we feel there is no need to rewrite bylaws. Our discussion led to the proposal as follows:

"We" is used for our Greater St. Louis group of nurses.

GOALS:

1. Need to maintain professionalism as a group. We are professionals and an affiliate to the national WOCN.

2. We don't want to turn away any of our existing members, nor do we want to discourage anyone interested in joining our group.

Statements in regard to:

Goal #1 - We are the WOCN St. Louis Affiliate and we will always encourage members to remain active in the WOCN, to attend national conference when possible and to take advantage of the resources that are available through the WOCN.

Goal #2 - We invite anyone interested in our group who has a professional involvement in the management of wound, ostomy or incontinence. In return we ask them to be participating members at least in our local meetings and activities.

Issues of officers and voting:

*Because we are a WOCN affiliate, the officers must be active members of the WOCN and only members of the WOCN can vote for those officers.

*All other issues effecting only our local group or our local activities may be voted on by the whole of the Greater St. Louis group.

National and local dues:

Those who choose not to pay national dues will be asked to pay local dues of ($______) which is equal to the money our affiliate receives back from National for each membership. Those dues will be paid once a year at a time decided on by the President and Treasurer. 2003 rebate dues = $12.00.
