4. Communications

National WOCN Society and Other Affiliates

  • New publication to promote and increase public awareness of the role of WOC nurse is now available. Cost is $5 for 10 brochures. S. Kramer suggested that our local group could possibly create our own brochure.
  • WOCN membership forms are available from S. Kramer or on website.
  • WOCN Headquarters is moving from California to Illinois. WOCN needs to incorporate in Illinois to save dollars and have more leniencies in promoting programs due to Illinois law structure. To do this, the bylaws must be rewritten and approved. Ballots have been mailed to you. Please take a moment, fill in the ballot and return in the mail before 12/15/03.
  • NIWI (Nurse in Washington Internship): If anyone with National Membership is interested, applications are on the website.

12/2/03: Meeting & Holiday Party : Discussion for involvement of sales reps again in the holiday dinner. S. Kramer contacted some of the sales resp and they are willing and would like to help sponsor the dinner which will significantly decreased the cost to members. J.Knebel made a motion to invite the sales reps and request sponsorship, seconded by C. Heady. Approved.

Mobile Program Report – Judy Schaffer, ET

J. Schaffer,J.Bangert will be presenting the "Mobile Program" at Shriners in November.

7. UOA Report:

Betsy Naeger, RN, BSN, CETN, Chair

  • Visitor Training Program, 10/11/03, St. John’s in the Gillis Board Room. Dr. P. Robbins, S. Kramer, CWOCN, and Dr. L. Caraffa presented. Ten members attended (5 new, 5 to recertify). This program is beneficial to patients. B. Naeger often is asked why her ostomy nurse or doctor didn’t tell the about the UOA. Ostomy patients have a right to know about the resources available to them.

    • S.Kramer is continuing to work to update our website. Log on!

2. Scholarship Fund (Christine Heady)

    • A brief report will be provided at the December meeting.

3. Nomination Committee (Betsy Naeger, Chair)

    • There has been no formal meeting but B. Naeger has been in contact with the committee members by phone. Voting for officers will be held at December meeting.

4. New Products/Procedures:

    • Zassi BMS, St. John’s is continuing to use in their Burn Unit and ICU. The system can be complicated and must be used by trained nurses and doctors.
    • Coloplast, Hollister and ConvaTec all have new pouching systems. If you have not seen them, contact your product rep.
