St. Louis Affiliate WOCN Meeting Minutes
February 7, 2006

Members Present:

  • Lisa Hodges, April Kuhlman, Becky Toennies, Violet Brownell, Sandy Kucera, Cynthia Fleck, Susan Stumpf, Beverly Pool, Laurel Wiesema-Bryant, Linda Stamm, Delores Drury, Betsy Naegar, Linda Geurin, Teri Reid, JoAnn Hager, Mary Ann Douglas, Judy Schaffer.

    Meeting called to order at 4:15 p.m. by Lisa Hodges, President.

  • Today's meeting is sponsored by Enterprise Medical Equipment: Dr. Miller, DO FACOS, CWS with The Wound Healing Center in Terre Haute, IN: NWPT: Versatile-1 Blue Sky.
  • Questionnaire distributed regarding suggestions for future meeting locations, future program topics and other suggestions for our meetings. Future meetings have the following format: 4-5 pm business meeting, 5-5:30 pm for networking/cocktails and 5:30-7:30 pm for the education/dinner. It was discussed that the members would appreciate a dinner regarding ostomy care and continence care. There was further discussion of hosting an education conference this year. It was discussed that it is too late for 2006, we will plan one for Spring 2007. The proposed topic is Ostomy Care. We would like to have basic and advanced sessions. Another proposed topic is surgical technique for creating diversions. A planning committee was formed and includes: April Kuhlman, Lisa Hodges, Becky Toennies, Betsy Naeger, Linda Stamm, Delores Drury, Sandy Kucera, and Linda Geurin.
  • Previous Minutes were accepted without revision, motion made by Cynthia Fleck and seconded by April Kuhlman. As a reminder the meeting minutes are always available on the website.

    Secretary Report:

  • April Kuhlman. We are in the process of updating our membership list. Please contact April to assure that your information is up to date. Don’t forget that local membership dues are now due if you are not a national organization member. The fee is $12. Benefits to local members: inclusion on the mailing list and education/dinner invitations. Members who belong only to the local organization may not vote or hold office. There was also discussion of providing the membership with a list that would be available to patients as a resource for inpatient and outpatient care. It was also discussed that members paying before November 1 of each year will need to renew their dues at the annual time (February). It is desired that all dues at paid annually to avoid needing to track members down throughout the year to pay.

    Treasurer Report:

  • Jackie Bangert absent. Lisa Hodges, former secretary with report. Cash on hand as of 12/31/04 $23, 270.62 in savings; $88.94 in checking for a total of $23,359.56.

    Conferences:

  • Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation of America—Patient Education Symposium "Got Guts", Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Learning the Ins and Outs—Missouri Baptist Medical Center, February 25, 2006 (8:30 am to 1:00 pm).
  • SUNA (Society of Urological Nurses & Associates)—The Annual Symposium: Disorders of the Bladder, Bowel and Pelvic Floor—New York City, NY, March 16-18, 2006.
  • Annual Wound Care Symposium- Memorial Medical Center/Plastic Surgery Institute at SIU School of Medicine--Hilton Garden Inn Springfield, IL, March 30, 2006.
  • WOCN 38th Annual Conference—Minneapolis, MN June 24-38, 2006.
  • Symposium (19th Annual) on Advance Wound Care—San Antonia, TX April 30- May 3, 2006.

    UOA Report:

  • Betsy Naeger. Betsy reports that they are preparing for the Annual Product Fair to be held May 1st at St. John’s in St. Louis. Peggy Nelson will be the featured speaker.

    WOCN Positions:
