St. Louis Affiliate WOCN Meeting Minutes
April 4, 2006

Members Present:

  • Lisa Hodges, April Kuhlman, Becky Toennies, Violet Brownell, Susan Stumpf, Beverly Pool, Linda Stamm, Betsy Naegar, Jackie Bangert, Sheila Kramer, Lyn Kramer, Pat Donald, Sheila Cullen, Pam Bowman, Marge Groom.

  • Meeting called to order at 4:15 pm by Lisa Hodges, President.
  • Discussion of approval of minutes. Currently minutes are distributed via email and posted on the website at www.stlwocn.org but approved at the meetings. Marge Groom made a motion, seconded by Becky Toennies to ask for approval of the minutes via email to cut down on paper. A few copies will be available in printed format at each meeting. Motion carried.

    Secretary Report:

  • April Kuhlman reports that she is not getting a good response to the email survey in order to make the list of inpatient WOC Nurse resources, outpatient WOC Nurse resources, etc. Lisa and April agreed to call non-responders by the next meeting in an attempt to have the resource list available by the next meeting.

    Treasurer Report:

  • Jackie Bangert reported that most of the money will be kept in savings and thus there is $23,279.80 in savings, $1,706.10 in checking for a total of $24,985.90. Discussion of how to earn more interest. Sheila Cullen suggested investing money in CD or money market. Jackie to investigate CD rates. Motion made by Lyn Kramer (seconded by Sheila Cullen) to move $15,000 into a short term CD (9-12 mos). Motion carried.

    Conferences:

  • WOCN 38th Annual Conference—Minneapolis, MN June 24-38, 2006
  • Symposium (19th Annual) on Advance Wound Care—San Antonio, TX April 30- May 3, 2006
  • National Expert Witness Conference 2006, Hyannis, Cape Cod, MA June 22-23, 2006

    Conference Planning:

  • We hope to have a Spring 2007 conference on ostomies. Additions to the committee include Marge Groom and Lyn Kramer. Betsy suggested that we have Dr. Ahrens speak about laprascopic ostomy surgeries and will look into this for the committee.

    WOC Nurse positions:

  • SSM Home Care, if interested contact Delores Drury. Also KCI is looking for a full-time clinical consultant for acute care. If interested, contact Sheila Cullen at 314-518-8917.
  • Marketing Committee:

  • Discussion that this committee is on hiatus until needed during conference planning.

    UOA Report:

  • Betsy Naeger. Annual product fair is May 1 at St. John’s. Peggy Nelson will be guest speaker. Please attend and encourage your patients to attend.

    Local Dues:
    Don’t forget that local membership dues are now due if you are not a national organization member. The fee is $12. Benefits to local members: inclusion on the mailing list and education/dinner invitations. Members who belong only to the local organization may not vote or hold office. There was also discussion of providing the membership with a list that would be available to patients as a resource for inpatient and outpatient care. It was also discussed that members paying before November 1 of each year will need to renew their dues at the annual time (February). It is desired that all dues at paid annually to avoid needing to track members down throughout the year to pay.

    Business:

  • Discussion of putting together a wound photo CD for use by members or to sell to other WOC Nurses. No consensus was reached.
  • Discussion of use of anodyne therapy. No consensus was reached.
  • Lisa passed out the Perspectives magazine that offers free contact hours in issues that often pertain to our specialty.

  • June 6, 2006. Awaiting sponsor and location information.
