1. Vote to approve previous minutes without changes. Motion made by Becky Toennies, seconded
by Michelle Raines. Motion carried.
2. Secretary Report—April Kuhlman, Secretary. Nothing new to report at this time.
3. Website Update—April Kuhlman, Webmaster. We are still working on the website. There has been a delay due to my premature labor and subsequent delivery. The plan is to have it up to view but hidden (you will need the exact address to view it) by October. I note that you would like a counter added to check the number of hits. I don’t know how to do this but will work on it.
4. Treasurer Report—Jackie Bangert, Treasurer. Cash on hand as of 6/1/2007: $19,824.20 in savings, $3,855.49 in checking for a total of $23,679.69. Income: $48.00 (dues), $6.10 (interest). Expenditures: $59.50 (website domain name registration) for total of $23,674.29 as of 8/1/2007. The CD mature’s tomorrow. There was a motion to renew the CD for 7 months and approve the treasurer’s report, motion made by April Kuhlman and seconded by Marge Groom. Motion carried.
5. UOAA Report—Betsy Naeger. None as Betsy was absent.
6. UOAA 2007 Donation—Discussion followed regarding how money is spent. It is impression of WOCN-St. Louis that funds are used for the UOAA St. Louis Indigent Patient Fund to provide supplies in time of need. It is unknown how often this fund is utilized. We would like more information, therefore voting on the amount for 2007 has been tabled until the October meeting when we can gather more information.
7. Holiday Party-December 2007—Lisa Hodges. Discussion of last year’s holiday party. Consensus that it was very nice and well-received. Everyone like the location. There were comments that the tables could have been set up closer together and more food could have been available. April noted that she would like to stress the importance of member and vendor payment up front so that she could enjoy the party more. Lucy volunteered to help at the door collecting payment, etc. Lisa to explore restaurants and book restaurant prior to next meeting.
8. Wound & Ostomy Nurse Survey—Colleen Cole. None as Colleen was absent.
9. WOCN Conference—Member Business Meeting—Jackie Bangert. Jackie discussed information presented at national conference regarding the WOCNCB (certification board) credentialing LPNs and 2 year or diploma RNs with a separate credential. It is unknown what the requirements for this credentialing would be in terms of education and examination. Discussion followed that the WOCNCB is a separate entity from the WOCN and that our certification is accredited by 2 different nationally recognized accrediting bodies and that the other wound certifications that exist do not offer that. They are not accredited and neither requires any educational requirements. (Please see link to WOCNCB Comparison of Wound Certification Programs and WOCNCB Alternative Level Certification FAQs). Members discussed the possible legal ramifications of facilities hiring persons using the other credentials (CWS and WCC) since their certification does not follow the same rigors. This information is presented as FYI for the group. The WOCN plans to publish a white paper regarding this topic. Please check www.wocn.org periodically regarding updates.
