WOCN- St. Louis Affiliate Minutes for August 5, 2008 Meeting

 

Meeting called to order at 1610 by Marge Groom, President.

 

Members Present: Lucy Atchley, Jackie Bangert, Elizabeth Borsay, Pamela Bowman, Colleen Cole, Janette Dietzler, Mary Anne Douglas, Diana Economon, Linda Geurin, Marge Groom, Christine Heady, Rachel Kaminski, Lyn Kramer, Sheila Kramer, Roxy Lupien, Beverly Mittrucker, Elizabeth Moore, Tamara Morehouse, Linda Newberry, Betty Nittler, Beverly Pool, Michele Raines, Carol Schlather.

Clinical Guest: Nancy Bryant, Janet Kaminsky, Linda Mitchell, Linda Pepmiller, Terri Reed.

 

1.      Secretary Report- Approval of  June meetings motion by Roxy Lupien, seconded by Linda Guerin. National membership will appear on the national registry after the 10th of every month.

 

2.      Website Update-April Kuhlman, Webmaster, Not present. 147 hits on website for June.  Any postings for website to please send to April Kuhlman @ info4slt.wocn@yahoo.com

 

3.      Treasurer Report-Jackie Bangert, Treasurer, August financial report with cash on hand as of 8/1/08 is $16,477.99 (savings $20,793.49 and checking $2,114.59) No expenditures with a total of $22,908.48. Discussed annuity and transferring money on hand to an annuity. Motion by Roxy Lupien to approve financial report and to stop CD and put amount into savings seconded by Carol Slater

 

4.      UOAA Report- Betsy Naeger. No report. Next UOAA meeting at St. Anthony’s 7:00 p.m.  UOAA currently meets on the First Monday of the month with alternating evening and days and can access UOAA link on WOCN-St. Louis Affiliate Website

 

5.      WOCN positions-Marge Groom, President. No known positions at this time. Please contact Marge Groom or April Kuhlman with employment listings. All listings currently on WOCN-St. Louis Affiliate Website.         

      

6.      Old Business.

a.      Wound and Ostomy Nurse Survey-National WOCN website has report on number of WOCN per hospital census.

b.      Scholarship committee- Marge Groom. April Kuhlman Committee had agreed to keep the scholarship funds in St. Louis Affiliate and currently developing guidelines with template from the National WOCN. Linda Guerin accepted new chair of scholarship committee with Marge Groom and Betsy Naeger present as members of scholarship committee. Currently working on format and discussed to keep the funds locally. Committee include April Kuhlman, Rachel Kaminsky, Pam Bowman, Colleen Cole, Betsy Naeger, Marge Groom, and Linda Newberry

c.      Holiday Party committee- Lucy Atchley. Discussed options for WOCN Holiday party. Discussed prior Christmas party with 35 Vendors and 35 members present at a cost of approximately $73.00/person, Suggestions included Anheuser Busch Soccer Park and Orlando Gardens. Cash bar was recommended by Linda Geurin and to bring cookies. Motion to accept Orlando Garden for Holiday party by Diane Economon and second by Rachel Kaminsky. Party Committee includes Christine Heady, Marge Groom, Jackie Bangert, Lucy Atchley, Robin Edleman, and Lyn Kramer.

d.      Regional affiliation- National is pursuing the idea of development of regional affiliate as the best avenue for communication. Chicago questioning the redevelopment of regional affiliation. Our region includes Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, South Dakota, West Virginia, and Wisconsin. Discussed benefits of reorganizing regional affiliate such as to conduct regional conferences, networking, and increased WOCN opportunities

e.      Conference-Positive feedback regarding the National WOCN conference with interest in the pharmacological aspect and obtainment of CEU’s made more accessible related to Kiosks.

 

7.      New Business-Marge Groom

a.      National speakers –Suggestions included Barb Bancroft, infection disease, David Steid, University of P.H. Dr. Arnold Bullock @ Barnes, urology and neo-bladders, Dr. John Kirby, trauma, necrotizing fascitis, Jim Fleshman, laparoscopic surgery.

b.      Upcoming seminars-Synergicare @ the lake-Jeanette Dietzler-started her own company. Bariatric October 27 @b St. Johns Mercy Medical Center with Susan Gallagher, Bellville Memorial with Advances in Medical Surgical Nursing. Missouri with 20-25 annual CEU’s in 2009 and Illinois requires 20 CEU’s in 2 years. Jan Caldwell rounded on the conference regions.

c.      Final rule for CMS documentation handout.      

d.      Website discussion- Posting of educational opportunities on the Website discussed and the number of links. There are free CEU’S posted on the internet by various companies such as Healthpoint and Hollister. Posting of upcoming educational opportunities on Website free for individual or hospital. If company wants to advertise on website discuss a need for them to pay a fee.

e.      New products discussed included fecal management system from Bard, Hollister clamp, St. Anthony’s low pressure adaptor, and Hydrofera blue.
