WOCN- St. Louis Affiliate Minutes for August 4, 2009 Meeting

 

Meeting called to order at 1615 by Marge Groom, President

 

Members Present: Nancy Bryant, Elizabeth Borsay,  Janette Dietzler, Diana Economon,  Linda Geurin, Marge Groom, Christine Heady, Lyn Kramer, April Kuhlman, Marsha McGuire, Linda Mitchell, Linda Newberry, Beverly Pool, Terri Reed, John Stewart,  Clinical Guest: Kelly Weigel, JoAnn Hager

 

  1. Secretary Report- Linda Newberry. Approval of June minutes. Motion by Janette Dietzler and seconded by Lyn Kramer. National membership will appear on the national registry after the 10th of every month.-2009 Upcoming St. Louis Affiliate Educational Dinner Meetings, February 3,  April 7, June 2, August 4, October 6, December Holiday Party-December 1

 

B.      Website Update-April Kuhlman, Webmaster, reviewed number of website hits and has declined since nationals. Any postings for website please send to April Kuhlman @ info4stlwocn@yahoo.com

 

C.      Treasurer Report-Jackie Bangert, Treasurer, August 2009 cash on hand was $23,031.70 (CD $18,000, and checking $5,031.70).  Payment made to Drury for the sum of $483.29 for National room, $195.00 for Ribbon, $12.50 for Name Registration, and $59.50 for Host Web Site was made thus a total expenditure of $750.00 with a sum of $22,281.41.  Motion by Linda Newberry to accept financial report and seconded by Marsha McGuire.

 

D.      UOAA Report-Betsy Naeger, absent. Last meeting was stump the nurse. Attendance is encouraged. Membership for the UOAA is $12.00 annually and currently meets on the First Monday of the month with alternating evening and days. Currently can access UOAA link on WOCN-St. Louis Affiliate Website

 

E.       WOCN positions-  St. Mary’s in Centralia, Promeus Team, Toronto, Ontario, Ergo Midwest, Inc. for a WOCN for sales and clinical education, Quality Assessment RN Cybercoders of St. Louis, and Judy Stecker contact for DePere for Mole Center, located on physician and SLU website. Please contact Marge Groom or April Kuhlman with any employment listings and these listings can be accessed on the WOCN-St. Louis Affiliate Website.   

 

F.        Old Business:

a.       Scholarship committee- Currently no action or applications received with discussion to leave St. Louis Affiliate money in region. Reminder that scholarship applications can be obtained from and submitted to Linda Guerin with a $1,000.00 per scholarship and can be obtained within 3 months of graduation from a WOCN program. Please contact Linda Guerin for request for applications for scholarships or further questions.

b.       Holiday Party committee- Jackie Bangert no report.

c.        Wound, Ostomy, and Continence National-41st Annual Conference-The Gateway to Knowledge June 6-10, 2009 and the results of the St. Louis Affiliate meeting with WOCN National Board which included:

    1.  Discussed possible development of LPN certification or Technician
    2. Job Analysis Survey fro LPN can call 1-888-496-2622 if you want to participate and encouraged member participation. Asking for participation in upcoming surveys that include educational needs survey and member strategic planning survey
    3. Advanced practice committee are working on developing job analysis for advanced practice
    4. Evidence based practice committee for review of literature and will be available in the July issue of JWOCN
    5. Marketing of WOCN with VA/Dept of Defense
    6. Direct mail packet to legislature regarding importance of WOCN role
    7. CMS pilot of Long term pay for performance with quality measures to include pressure ulcers
    8. Joint physician statement
    9. Certification news-No printed version available-only available on-line
    10. Development of Blogging and Twitter sites
    11. Upcoming Certification board elections
    12. Volunteer for committee was encouraged and WOCN is looking for volunteers for their committee’s
    13. Mikel Gray discussed on-line literature expansion, evidence based practice research and upcoming seminars.

 

  1. New Business-Marge Groom,

a.       National Dues-Do not forget to pay your national WOCN dues

b.       Officers- WOCN St. Louis Affiliate elections August 4, 2009 results are President- Janette Dietzler, Secretary-Kay Gundy, and Treasurer-Linda Newberry.   

c.        NIWI Scholarships available at WOCN National Website

d.       Lymphedema expert in our area was discussed included Medical West as one resource (Micheal Smith)

e.        NPUAP Recommendations for Coding Suspected Deep Tissue Injury was discussed with handout to members.

  

H.       Announcements: New product discussed was NUCYNTA-pain  

I.        Adjournment-Motion by Mary Anne Douglas and seconded by Beverly Pool. Motion carried, meeting adjourned at 1715.
