WOCN-St. Louis Affiliate Meeting--Minutes October 6, 2009
Meeting called to order at 1622 by Jackie Bangert, treasurer, and Janette Dietzler, President Elect
Members present: Jackie Bangert, Elizabeth Borsay, Pamela Bowman, Colleen Cole, Debbie Coleman, Janette Dietzler, Patricia Donald, Josett Franke, Linda Guerin, Kay Gundy, Lisa Hodges, Lynn Kramer, Sandra Kucera, Roxy Lupien, Marsha McGuire, Elizabeth Moore, Audrey (Moyer) Harris, Linda Newberry, Michelle Raines, Rebecca Toennies.
A. Secretary Report-Linda Newberry. Approval of August minutes: Correction under F(b) misspelled "for." And change lettering of poins under "c" to numbers. Move to accept minutes as amended by Roxy Lupien. Seconded by Josett Franke. Upcoming meetings December Holiday Party. Janette Dietzler will coordinate with vendors for 2010 meetings.
B. Website Update: deferred due to April's absence. Linda Guerin wil be handling scholarship (national and local) applications.
C. Treasurer Report-Jackie Bangert, Treasurer. Currently $18,000 in savings, and $4728.41 in checking. Cash on hand $22,781.41. Upcoming expenses: annual donation to UOAA ($500),
Holiday Party. The CD is due this month. Linda Newberry moved to accept the financial report, Marsha McGuire seconded.
D. UOAA Report: Betsy Naeger absent. Next meeting at St. Luke's November 2. Speaker will be Leonard Naeger regarding drugs and interactions.
E. WOCN positions: Kindred and SLUH are both seeking FT WOCN nurses. Contact April Kuhlman with any employment listings, which can also be accessed on our website.
F. Old Business:
1. Scholarships are available within 3 months of completion of WOCNEP. Scholarships are for $1000. See Linda Guerin for applications, LFG1804@aol.com or Linda._Geurin@ssmhc . com.
2. Holiday Party Committee Report--Jackie Bangert: A suggestion had been made to have the Holiday Party at the zoo. Jackie investigated this and discovered that the cost to have the party at the Painted Giraffe Café would be $750-$1500, and to have it at any of the other zoo venues would be $1500 or more. Use of the carousel or train is $1600/hr. Buffet cost would be $22.33/person plus $75/hr X2hrs for the bartender, for a total of $2777. The cost to have the party at Orlando Gardens again would be $1204, including the bar. It was brought up that since Thanksgiving is so late this year, that the Holiday Party would follow it by only 5 days if we maintain our usual 1st Tuesday of the month meeting date. It was suggested to move the Holiday Party to the 2nd Tuesday, December 8. Pam Bowman moved to have the Party at Orlando Gardens on December 8, seconded by Colleen Cole. After discussion of charges, Kay Gundy moved to keep the charge for non-members at $20, seconded by Pam Bowman. Janette is trying to put together a video/slide show of member pictures to be shown at the Party. Please submit any photographs or video to her at skin1798@yahoo.com or jdietzler@charter.net by 12/1.
3. News for WOCnews on quarterly basis: Pat Donald. Please send any news for publication to Pat at pdonald@sebh.org. Submissions are needed by the 18th of the month.
4. St. Louis Affiliate Election Results: As of January 2010, WOCN-STL Affiliate officers will be Janette Dietzler, President; Kay Gundy, Secretary; and Linda Newberry, Treasurer.
5. Job analysis survey: Still open, if you work with LPNs, call 1-888-496-2622 to participate. Some may have already participated online.
G. New Business:
1. The next Annual WOCN Conference will be in Phoeneix June 2010.
2. Proposed Officer election process change: Propose to clarify membership requirements for officer eligibility. Pat Donald has received a copy of the Chicago Affiliate bylaws and will provide them to the group for information and comparison purposes.
3. Interactive STL-WOCN webpage. It has been suggested that our webpage be made more interactive, possibly a blog which would need to be password protected to comply with HIPPA. The possibility of adding research articles, or links thereto was raised. Audrey Harris will explore the legalities and report back.
4. Regional Conference: Some of the members would like to bring back a regional conference to the STL area, possibly NPUAP. Discussion was tabled.
5. Establishing a WOCN-STL Library. Discussion regarding establishing a local WOCN library of books, tapes, references and other related resources. Colleen Cole will come up with a proposal.
H. Announcements:
1. New Products: NAPA has an inspection mirror on a handle which would be ideal for assessing heels or other body parts which are not easily accessible.
