MINUTES  WOCN-STL AFFILIATE MEETING FOR JUNE 1, 2010

 

A.  Call to order:  Janette Dietzler, president.  Time: 1648  Members attending:  Retta Sutterfield, Katy James, Dena Muscarella, April Kuhlman, Susie Tuttle, Elizabeth Moore, Roxy Lupien, Michelle Raines, Pam Bowman, Beverly Pool, Marsha Haake, Pat Donald, Lyn Kramer, Audrey Moyer-Harris, Kay Gundy, Colleen Cole, Janette Dietzler, Terri Reed, Diana Economon, Mary Anne Douglas, Carol Schlather, Jackie Bangert, Mary Wilhelm, Betty Nittler, Kelly Weigel, Linda Mitchell, Nancy Bryant, Tamara Morehouse.

 

B.  Approval of APRIL Minutes:  Kay Gundy, secretary

            Move to accept as submitted:  Pam Bowman, 2nd Pat Donald

 

C.  Treasurer Report:  Linda Newberry, treasurer.  No changes to last meeting's report, no statement received from the bank.  Move to approve: Pam Bowman   Second: Pat Donald

 

D.  Committee Reports:  It was decided by a vote of the membership to hold committee meetings on the day of the WOCN meetings from 4:00-4:30 to facilitate attendance.

 

            Holiday Committee--

            Scholarship Committee:  Linda Geurin.  

                        1) Decision to merge funds with National or manage independently:  By vote of

                            membership, decided to maintain control of out own scholarship funds.

                        2)Kay Gundy is an approved preceptor for the WebWOC

                        program, Diana Economon is trying to get the contract approved so that she can

                        precept for WebWOC as well.  April Kuhlman, Linda Newberry, Rhonda Pepmiller,

                        Diana Economon, JoAnn Hager and Nancy Bryant are preceptors for Emory. 

            STL-A Library-Proposal  Colleen Cole.  Proposal is being rewritten.  Tentative

                         plans for physical reference library and on-line links to articles/references via our

                         website.  Please email Janette if you are interested in having a set of WOCN

                         conference CDs to be maintained by the library.  Still checking legalities and need

                         for licensure.

            Regional Conference Committee:  Janette Dietzler

                        Vote of the membership:  Conference to be held at Newman Center  Sept 21,2010.  Much discussion was held regarding speakers, length of conference, obtaining MONA approval for CEU's.  Volunteers to help with MONA applications were requested to contact Janette Dietzler,  and speakers are to let Janette know their topic, content, and goals as quickly as possible.

           

E.  Website Report: April Kuhlman, webmaster. In April, the website had 366 page loads, 248 unique visitors, 231 1st time visitors and 17 returning visitors.  (If no cookies enabled, returning visitors may show up as first time visitors).  For May, the count was 362 page loads, 207 unique visitors, 199 1st time visitors and 8 returning visitors.  April states she is not unwilling to sign a contract to stay on as Webmaster, but needs to know exactly what she would be need to know/do.  Discussion tabled due to length of time spent on regional conference discussion.

 

F.  UOAA Report:  Betsy Naeger-absent.  UOAA mettings held 2nd Monday each month.  Contact

           Betsy Naeger 314-781-4544 or Lee Ann Barcus 636-240-3551 for questions or information.          Contact Mary Beth Akers to sign up for the "Live and Learn" email newsletter        (marybethakers@excite.com).

                        1)  The UOAA Youth Rally for ostomates aged 11-17 will be held July 12-17 at

                              Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio.  Please contact Mary Beth Akers

                               regarding camp and the enewsletter.  UOAA sponsors the cost for first time

                               attendees, and 50% of the fee and airfare thereafter.

                        2)  WOCN of the Year Nominations

 

G.  WOCN positions: 

            1)Audrey Moyer-Harris's position at National Healing has been filled.

            2)  AMH-Regional Medical Center is looking for a Director of Practice Management.

            3)  Katy James has taken the position at Pyramid Home Health.

            4)  SLUH is still seeking a FT WOCN nurse.

            5)  RecoverCare is seeking  FT clinical support RN, req BSN/MSN and wound certification.

                        Involves travel.

 

H.  Old Business:  Janette Dietzler

            1.  News/articles for WOCNews due to Pat Donald

            2.  Election Process change--Submitted that NAON staggers their elections so that the president and treasurer are elected  every other year, and the president elect and secretary are elected in the off years.  If we are to do this, Linda Newberry will need to be willing to extend her term to 3 years instead of two, or we would need to shorten the term for the president and secretary to one year.  Alternatively to have the president elect have a 3year term.  April Kuhlman moved for a vote, with Mary Anne seconding.  A vote was taken with 16 for and no against votes.  We will still need to figure out the details before we can move to this election format.

            1.  Interactive STL-Affiliate WOCN webpage--pending

                        a.  Audrey Moyer-Harris:  legalities--pending

                       

            2.  Committee meetings:  Agreed to meet from 4-4:30 on WOCN meeting dates.  Will

                  maintain list of committee members (see addendum)  Each committee is to choose a

                 chairperson and notify Janette of that person's name.

                                               

J.  Announcements

            1.  Email addresses--please continue to notify Kay Gundy of changes of email addresses, or

                  non-work email contact information if your workplace firewall blocks our messages.
