MINUTES WOCN-STL AFFILIATE MEETING FOR OCTOBER 11, 2011

 

A.  CALL TO ORDER:  Janette Dietzler, President.  Time:1636.  Members attending: Janet Meyer, Cynthia Fleck, Lisa Wright, Kay Gundy, Terri Reed, Janette Dietzler, Linda Newberry, Pam Bowman, Jackie Bangert, Elizabeth Moore, Michelle Raines, Betsy Naeger, April Kuhlman, Roxy Lupien, Colleen Cole, Linda Geurin, Retta Sutterfield, Dena Muscarella, Cathy Robinson, JoAnn Hager, Tanya Albers, Carol Schlather, Diana Economon.

B.  APPROVAL OF AUGUST MINUTES:  Kay Gundy, secretary

C.  TREASURER REPORT:  Linda Newberry, Treasurer.  Cash on Hand as of June 1,2011:  Savings/MMA $22,481.12, Checking $5789.22 for total of $28,270.34.  Income from Interest: $5.45, other (conference) $4,362.00 for total of $4,367.45.  Cash on hand plus income $32,637.79.  Expenditures:  Committees (holiday party) $500.00, WOCN-DVD $157.00, Other (EPNEC) $5775.00 for total of $6432.00.  Cash on hand plus income less expenditures $26205.79.  Cash on hand as of 10/1/11:  Savings $20,486.57, checking $5,719.22 for total of $26,205.79.

D.  COMMITTEE REPORTS:

            STL-A LIBRARY, Colleen Cole: Conference tapes have been purchased and are still with Roxy.  A back-up copy will be made, and is legal.  Call Colleen to borrow the tapes once available.

            REGIONAL CONFERENCE COMMITTEE;  Janette Dietzler:  99 people attended the conference, and 30 vendors.  $323 is still pending.  We made $16312.00, so we at least broke even.  Attendees came from Illinois, Cape Girardeau and Iowa, as well as locally.  Jackie moved to give Jenny Beamon a $100 gift certificate in appreciation for her time and hard work to help make the conference a success.  Pam Bowman seconded the motion.  In order to do another conference next year, MONA will need to be renewed.  It was reported that some vendors “shared” a table, bringing extra people who were not paid for.  Betsy suggested that there be meal tickets issued (2 per table) and any extra people/vendors would need to purchase meal tickets.  The conference online handouts will be available one more week.  Audrey and Beth Bates need to resend their presentations to April.

            PUBLIC POLICY COMMITTEE:  Janette Dietzler—no report

            SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE:  Linda Geurin—no activity

            ELECTION/NOMINATION COMMITTEE:  Pam Bowman:  Elections were held via Survey Monkey, and it was discovered that by Survey Monkey it was not possible to write in candidates.  Some members had the survey blocked by firewalls.  Of 87 members, there were 26 responses, with 26 votes each for Janette as president, Pam as secretary, and Roxy as treasurer.  A write in ballot was taken by those in attendance who were not able or not willing to vote online.  There were 5 written ballots, which were counted in private by Kay Gundy, with 5 votes each for Janette as president, Pam as Secretary and Roxy as treasurer. 

            HOLIDAY COMMITTEE: Pam Bowman:  The holiday party will be held Dec 6 from 5-9PM at Orlando’s on Watson.  Member/UOAA  price $15.  Nonmembers and students $20. Vendors, $60. RSVP by 12/1, Make checks payable to WOCN-STL-A.  Katie James will do the movie, so please send any pictures to her via email or send a “stick” with pictures to her.  Janette will arrange for the LCD projector and microphone.  We will be presenting the annual donation to UOAA, a gift card for Jenny, and there will be prayer, gifts, raffle and dinner.

E.  WEBSITE REPORT:  April Kuhlman  September had 339 page loads and 226 unique visits.  There were 467 page loads and 298 unique visits in August.

F.  UOAA REPORT:  UOAA meetings held 2nd Monday each month.  Contact Betsy Naeger 314-781-4544.  Contact Mary Beth Akers to sign up for the email newletter (Marybethakers@excite.com).  The September meeting was a huge success.  Thanks to Roxy, April, Linda Geurin and Betsy for moderating the breakout groups.  The October meeting features a talk on Why to see a Urologist.  November’s meeting will feature Steve Naeger speaking on drugs and urostomy.  The Holiday Party will be Monday 12/5 at the Heart of St. Charles.  There is discussion regarding designing a release form for UOAA which would allow them to send emails to ostomy pts, and monthly reminders of the meetings.  Susan sent a draft of the release form.  Also, please send any nominations for WOCN of the Year to Susan Burns.  Betsy is to notify us if the annual contribution of $500 that we give, is not enough.  It takes $600 to send one camper to camp for a week.

H.  OLD BUSINESS

            1)  Committee meetings:  4-4:30 on WOCN meeting dates and sites.

            2)  Please send picture for the holiday video to Katie James.

             

I.  NEW BUSINESS

1)    It was suggested that since people are still having difficulty making it to the meetings on time, that the committees continue to meet at 4:30 on meeting days, but the meeting will be moved to 5-6:00, with networking from 6-6:30 and the dinner presentation from 6:30-7:30.  A vote was taken, with 11 for and 1 vote against.

J.  ANNOUNCEMENTS:

2)    New products:  Roxy is doing a trial of Celleration.

3)    Pink Glove Dance.com votes close out Oct 21.  Be sure to vote for St. Anthony’s entry.
