The St. Louis Affiliate of WOCN (Wound, Ostomy, Continence Nurses) has developed educational wound care programs to meet the needs of Home Health Care and Long Term Care. Practicing wound care specialists will educate facility/agency staff and coordinate a program to meet specific needs. Contents of a program could include the following:
- Practical applications of basic wound care principles
- Consistent scientific foundations for staff to implement daily
- Selection and implementation of cost effective and clinically efficacious models
- Strategies to meet state and federal guidelines for wound care that represent cost effective and proper reimbursement
- Discussion of wound documentation that supports reimbursement and legal implications
- Adequate time to dialogue with a wound care specialist
Program objectives would provide cost effective and appropriate wound care through:
- Discussion of wounds, wound healing and foundations required to achieve accurate assessment
- Examination of ways to develop a plan of care based on individual assessment, including the wound itself
- Provision of data to implement selecting wound care products to meet the needs of the wound
- Identification of wound products and their appropriate application
- Statement of legal and accurate documentation implementation
Cost of the program: $250.00 to be paid by check upon completion of each program
Fees include a 45 minute presentation at a facility/location of choice, slides, hand-outs, interactive lecture, and certificates of attendance.
Each agency/facility will be able to select a date and time that complies with staff availability, and coordinated with a representative of WOCN - St. Louis Affiliate.
A certified wound care specialist will present this educational program for unlimited participants at a facility/agency (i.e. the $250.00 fee is for 10 or 100 nurses or more).
